The last twelve months have proven what I have always believed; the marginalized crop of young Hiphop Activists that ekes out a life of struggle at the skid-row of existence in the Toyi Toyi Undaground Sub-culture is a very powerful web rebounding the enemy’s attacks. I am blessed to have had association with the gifted, passionate, grassroots Hiphoppas that passed through the Toyi Toyi HipHop Slam every third Saturday afternoon at the Book Café. You kept me fired and inspired when I was getting tired. Zvirove Dundundu Gamba!
It has therefore been a year in which big tings went down on the Undaground where the real Hiphop has its dwelling. I now find it very difficult to also come to grips with the fact that the Slam tomorrow at the Book Café will be our last. If you haven’t heard –the Book Café management has decided to give the afternoon slot to other programs.
I guess this makes this Slam special and explains why I am going on the typewriter like so. Adding to the need for all you all to be there is the fact that Brotha Tawanda and his connections are producing a Documentary on Zim Hiphop and will be filming at the Slam. We need to let the Real Stand Up to defend the culture against the bling bling urban groove beetle in the battle to authentic our footsteps.
Emcees –please come early –registration for the Open Mic Session ends at 2pm, when the show starts. We need to polish up the flow of the show and make it tighta. Let’s make it a smoov Slam. We also need the Hiphop poets to rep it up in the Spoken Word Session 2pm-3pm. Word.
If you make it there by 1pm you can listen in to the Toyi Toyi Radio Hiphop Session 1pm-2pm. Check out your favourite classic old school and your fresh and revolutionary tracks in this Special Presentation.
