I'm using cubase for instrumentals and recording vocals. Cool Edit Pro for editing but don't know exactly what effects to use on the vocals. Someone to help

generally, u don't need to do much

first, cut of all frequencies below 98hz using your parametic EQ

next, apply some little reverb on the voice......don't limit urself to a particular setting, invent your own room

then, put the vokals back in the mix, and apply compensating eq such that it will fit the vokals perfectly into the mix\

of course, this all assumes u've got a good mic, like some behringer :D

yo west thanx for the helpout man..... u are the bomb.....

also not forgettin to remove any DC offsets......from the vocals that is.....

you should also use a high pass filter on the vocals..... its a great way to remove some background noise and also improve the quality of the vocals

apart from these,,,,,,, the effects to use would depend on the desired effect u want to create.....is it an echo? a pitch correction or pitch shifter/////???? it all depends on what u have in mind

but remember to be creative

there are no "best effects" mate, everyone visualises a song before they do a project.. whether you can achieve it is another thing, so normally i would give u meaningless advice like "yo jus play around with the settings" which works, because it helps you know the software and how to work with your own voice, but imma tell u wat i do...

i was lookin for tutorial a week ago and stumbled across this nice tutorial

http://www.hiphop-directory.com/forums/ ... php?t=6561

jus scroll down and u'll see it, given that u use adobe, but dont follow it exactly, jus play around wit it, heavy or subtle depends on wat sound u lookin for, if its a heavy beat u gotta edit it a lot for clarity etc, but laid back beat dont need too much playin with..
