Don't you all people think about what the future holds: how ish will benefit future generations? Since people are so fascinated about Pac all around the world, don't you'll think this will benefit Soweto, directly, no indirect ish.

Honestly...I dont know man...unless the future African-American would start wanting to have a ganster connexion with the motherland...then maybe yes. Yet, notice one thing, Soweto doesn't need PAC's ashes to attract tourists...it has a lot going and a lot uncovered. Maybe this PAC thing is a "black mask" on the white skin of the Bush babies that want to crack it to SA's tourism in preparance for 2010. Just maybe...looking to partner with SA, reap the benefits of a black skin then split...if the trend of the tourism growth would seem to depreciate. Just a food for thought...

Interesting conspiracy theory Tee, but considering Atheni Shakur's political history with the Black Panthers, do you honestly see her working in cahoots with Bush? :|

Hmmm..... quite an interesting thread. I've got my opinions on this issue. First, of what use will it be bringing pac's ashes 2 africa, soweto to be exact? He's dead and gone only alive in our memories and his songs. No matter how much ceremonial bullshit they do, it will neva bring him back. If it is celebrating his life n times, i don't see how spreading 2pac's ashes all over soweto celebrates him. Without meaning to sound harsh, I think this pac ish is a waste of time and an avenue to raise money. No disrepect to mandela n afeni, but then it all sounds meaningless to me. Ah mean.....let the man rest in peace

I'm not referring to Bush exactly, by Bush babies i meant the Capitalist America...the market trend watchers, the investors...those people good with marketing and persuasive skills. I don't know if it was on Atheni's initiative to do the whole thing...but as I said, it's just food for thought. I know for a fact that Organisations/ Companies tend to take advantage of such things...I'm one of those who spot such opportunities.

For example, wrt BEE, my we could see my father being a Director/Partner at a large organisation being an achievement...of which it might be worth it, and the organisation will be focusing on compliance and winning deals through him...the best thing is that it is portrayed as transformation and seeing the value of empowerment, at most the person is praised for his wisdom and determination in steering the org. I experience this first hand.

Is it wrong if there are raising money for the people of Soweto? What is the argument here?

@Teezer. Always like debating with you dawg. Okay, back to the point main. Have you ever check that pic that Theme (Theme get in here to- anybody tell him if they can) had as his sig, tha 2 Pac's aunt pic. The one who's got trouble with the law in the US. Man, she stays in Cuba (if i'm not mistaking) or maybe I should say she stays in an anti-capitalist society. The Black Panther movement is/was not a capitalist kid as well. Thus, with all these influences on Pacs mom, do you think she'll allow exploitive capitalist companies, to come and rape her sons legacy and the people who loved him so much.

An arguement that I think you guys can raise with the Pac ashes issue is that "His mom may be seeking to fulfil her unfulfilled dreams. The dreams she always had but couldn't reach. The political dreams she had while in the panthers. The dream to do great and make a difference. An activist dream. The dreams that went away with drug abuse. The dreams that disappeared in the smoke in the shacks." Another way she can feel complete is to meet someone like Madiba, someone with common qualities. A person who has achieved a lot of great things in life, changing the world, not only a nation. In the studies of Sociology and Psychology, they provide explainations for such situation: "It is said that, whenever children achieve something that their parents couldn't achieve, the parents feel as if they have achieved to" Pac did great socially, politically, and even financially through his musik. Surely, he did change some of the systems perspective about the people's social living conditions. In this sense he fulfiled some of his mother's dreams. As a result, his mother feels that greatness. She feels forgiven for her troubles. Thus, she need to meet with people who has also done well, the Madiba's of this world. Read carefully the article found when following the link in the first post of this thread, read, how much she wanna see Tata

Keep elevating.

No no nooo...there's nothing wrong with it. Like i said, it might mean much to a lot of people, to me it doesnt.

You don't seem to understand my opinion on this, my opinion was just food for thought. Meaning something to purely think about.

I hope and believe it was purely out of her initiative...because i honestly hate having struggle heroes posing as the tourist attractions an publicity stunts. This has nothing to do with the Black consciousness, black panthers and all...it's purely (according to report articles) her honouring the struggle that her son put up.

I am one of those individuals who do not trust people, I tend to believe in things they do and might do. Been learning the hard way before. People change with times...and claim to have PAID THEIR DUES when criticised. This is what she said about this whole visit...which i have huge respect for (what she says...not getting into details of our own politics)...

Eish thats big...I get what you are saying though...they wouldnt even fly with Steve Biko's shirt to donate to a homeless Bronx nigga...thats just how it goes...we will always be the tokenistic recepients of their egos as far as heroism goes. They should do the same with Zola then, as he dwells in the hearts of South Africans as profoundly as Pac did in the hearts of young Americans...

Nuff said...but nevertheless, its a historic moment...wish I was there

Shakur Visit Postponed

Ghetto Ruff Records has issued a statement announcing that Afeni and the Shakur family have postponed their visit to South Africa (and the bringing of Tupac's ashes) until June 2007 due to 'personal reasons'.

The statement went on to add that the formal press statement from the Tupac Foundation will be released during the course of the week.

That my qween i know very well, I grew up in Sharpeville...i grew up amongst some of the people who would give up their lives for freedom before the demon-cratic era, I remember having my brother waken up at around 11 / 12 at night...and me being told to go lock the door. Everybody understood, commonness in people's spirits and determination as you said...
