i use that ALL the time...
one, its free
two, its free
three, its one hell of a program for recording. chopping, slicing up stuff
really easy interface, quick, fast and simple
if i wanna sample something from the computer, i just load up the mp3 or whatever in there and take out what i need. it definitely aint a high-end editing/recording program like soundforge or audition, but sure as hell gets the job done
peace

first of all, i wanna apologise for ma inability to be posting up stuff recently, too much school work for me to do and still recording phat songs , (will post up some soon...)
now about audacity...audacity is what i will call the best program available to rookies who are willing just to do basic stuff with their music. as far as i'm concerned, if the quality of sound ain't tight and the most vital mixing functions not on point, then it just ain't it. whathahell, why ever else will it be free?
i think we need to get good gear, whether we are software based producers or hardware based. industry standard programs can now be downloaded from the right sites for free, without the sound packs and legacy samples they come with, so why are we stalling?
i personallly use fruity xxl studio 6 and adobe audition 2.0 although i have a host of other programs such as cubase sx 3 steinberg nuendo 3 native instruments reaktor 5, guitar rig 5 and reason 3.0 to mention a few, but ma computer can handle all those so i learn thoroughly the gear i can use and stick with it.
also, a lot of websites offer real tips on how to mix ya music so you can make the best of whatever software you can lay your hands on...y'dig?
finally, like i always say, good music is a function of the gear and the producer who's handling tha gear, why do music if you are tone deaf?
let's elevate people...
ps.....audacity is wack.....ha ha ha ......just kidding.

Stick to Acid, even Acid1 is better than audacity.
Acid 5 is out now.
