i do both...i've been sampling so long its hard for me to think outside of that
i'm learning to change it up, tho. i dont wanna be one-dimensional with my music, so I'm learning ways to attack my beats differently
always gotta evolve, change, and improve my sound. I never wanna do the same thing twice

i just bought it last weekend! i remember around the time when this thing was built (1985) as a small kid i dreamt of owning electronic music equipment... then a bit later when people started sampling doing hip hop and house beats i was beating the chairs and tables instead of owning a drum machine.
so... now about 20 yrs later i finally got this vintage machine. crazy in this age of software sampling but there is something magical about hardware samplers and in patricular this machine.
it's a classic hip hop production tool (just like its big brother the SP1200 with double the amount of sample memory) and what makes itr sound so fat and different is the low-res sampling - also it has very little memory so in order to make something good you need to be creative - one thing people invented was to sample at double speed (45 rpm) then pitching down inside the sampler, that is also what creates the trademark low-res SP12 sound.
still trying to figure this machine out. but no way u can never reproduce the exact feel with just reason, fruityloops, logic plus those royalty free sound/sample cd's.

I've already sampled Fela's song "Egbe Mi O" . The song is on my website http://www.madeinunderground.vze.com , in tha jukebox page. The title is "Carry Me". Give an honest feedback on it .
"I'm so far ahead of my time , I'm bout to start another life
Look behind you , i'm about to pass you twice"
Doubt about that
