i record on ma PC and wanted 2 kno wat the best cheap mic is ??.

some peeps say sure but the samson's pretty good esp the samson C01U series cos they use a usb plug in which is way much better in sound quality than the conventional mics, i once used n noticed the difference, but remember get the GOLDWAVE software, really good 4 recording!!!!!!

In addition to these basics, you'll need a PC/MAC with at least 1GB of memory, A decent sequencer in your PC/MAC (Pro Tools, Cubase, Reason, etc...), the proper cables, etc
Just to get you started.
With less than $500 you can get a decent home studio setup.

The Best Mic if you can afford it is in my opinion the KSM 44 by Shure. Lovely peice of equipment.

i actually use this mic, im not even a producer and i get really nice quality,:D i dont have a pop filter, i dont have a booth/sound proofing, i recrd on a desk, but i can get rid of my noisy computer rumble with no quality compromise on the sound capture, i dont even know wat this mic is capable of, i jus rap on it for fun and it gives me great results

the best tool personally is my mobile phone~~

i descovered this when in was recording a video footage of some hiphop gig~~

the sound quility was to the tee~~then i thought to myself~~

"there should be a way to tranfer the video(or should i say remove the video clip and leave jus the audio on the timeline)~~

and yep u guessed it, it worked like fckin magic, sht was clear like a maaafcker....(I used COOLEDIT PRO 2.0 to extract the audio from vio footage)... all i had ta do was jus add a couple a effects and I was on my way to a studio quality track recording...

i use the NOKIA N70 by the way, it's works wonders freal try it :wink:

well, i once used the shure SM58 and just bought a Behringer B2 pro. together with my M-Audio interface (with pre-amp and phantom power) i believe am ready for some serous music..... check out http://www.soundclic...siegeakadoubles

Some popular large diaphragm condenser mics are:

* AKG C 414 B-ULS - An industry standard for overhead drum miking and general use; provides choice of cardioid, hypercardioid, omni, and figure-8 pickup patterns.
* Neumann U87 - The industry standard; provides choice of cardioid, hypercardioid, omni, and figure-8 pickup patterns.
* Neumann TLM 103 - A new, lower-priced version of the famous U87; cardioid only.
* AKG C 3000 B - A budget mic based on the design of the venerable C 414 B-ULS; cardioid only.
* Audio Technica AT-4033a - An early '90s design that proved to be a huge hit. Now that its price has been lowered, the AT-4033 is once again a great value. Cardioid pattern only; great on saxophones.

Obviously some of these joints are crazy expensive. Here are some great alternatives:

Most of these mics look almost exactly like the Neumann U87 and are claimed to sound 'just like the real thing, but for a fraction of the cost' — the
Nady SCM 900, Joe Meek JM47 Meekrophone and Marshall Electronics MXL 2001-P are good examples. Of course, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. There are some good-sounding Russian-made condenser microphones available for almost as low prices as the mics made by 797 Audio. The Oktava MC-219 is an old 'sleeper' favorite.

NOT TRUE.....the USB mics were designed for podcasters because of the ease of hooking itup to your PC. they are rather noisier than "ordinary" microphones becoz the the power converter is built in the mic (usb only supplies up to 12v so that needs to be converted to 48v). this works differently from normal condensors that require a seperate phantom power supply unit.
the other thing about USB microphones is the inability to monitor other channels while recording....you can only monitor that ONE hannel the mic itself is connected to but as far as being able to hear the other tracks on whic you'd have your "beats" and other vocals for example you wont be able to do that....(pointless for recording tracks!!!)
