Something needs to be done.We need to advocate for recognition.
The only problem is we 've got fakes out in the limelight and the art may be misrepresented.If there was to be a category for hiphop ,who do we got in the open to vote for?Seeing as the real hip hop in Zim is mostly underground.

I was watching the KORAS this week.There was an acceptable number of hip hop acts that were nominees.When will we have Zim emcees up on that platform.We need to pull up madoda.
lt all starts at the grassroots though.You can't be at the Grammies before you're known(AND LOVED) in your hometown.We need to organise some things for ourselves,NOT BE SITTING ON OUR MICS WAITING FOR "THE RESOURCES".We're in Zimbabwe guys and last time l checked it's water not money and studio equipment that's falling out the sky.Hiphop is a culture before it is a beat on a loud P.A.,SO live it before before you get people to hear you.

Speaking of which,that 'emcees galore' was actually put there for emcees and the thing is instead of the emcees rising up to the call.,we got everyone else other than real hedz sounding off on the show.lf we won't take it somebody else will.So instead of criticising(of which l am also guilty),who promises to get on it and show the nation what real hiphop is all about?

My name is Carl Joshua Ncube and I am the director and Executive Producer of NAMA 2006. This year based on my dwindling youth I have embarked on introducing fresh acts to the show. While the categories may not have changed There s certainly the element of change withing the show.

1. There are the poeples choice awards where people can vote ni their favourite artist, this may pick up and end up being specific to the strongest genre in the market.
2. We have a number of fresh acts most imoprtantly in our acts we have breaker, who do a form of street dance that I grew up knowing as break dance. Then a lot of urban groovers

Acts that are in the diaspora? There are quite a few acts that are making waves over seas with actual products on the market that are pushing units as well as getting air play and making TV appearances. Are you catering for them as well?

brilliant idea man.And l hope you're paying attention mr Carl.If you never thought of this man then,.......This way a hip hop category is justified coz there are a lot of zim katts in the diaspora holding it down the hip hop way.the next NAMA have to bring in this angle.

Ypu got a point there.Only problem is how to get the music played.Kats like Metaphysics definitely deserve airplay, I won't even talk about awards, but when have you ever heard his music on radio.This system is stifling the efforts of bona fide emcees and producers and there is an unpronounced, yet very real barricade to real hip hop.There is more talent than we are being allowed to see.WHAT SHALL WE DO?

We have just launched the NAMA 2008 theme which is Made In Zim, we are celebrating everything that is Zimbabwean, that we love, including HIP HOP. We want Zimbabwe to realise that what makes us special is that you cannot really stereotype a Zimbabwean because we have so many facetts. We are a unique breed and we want Zimbabwe to remember it and celebrate the fact that we are Made In ZIM.

Made in Zim, nice concept homz... well i wouldnt really see Hip Hop getting much recognition now coz Urban Grooves is all over the place and the genre is not distinct and ue have rappers labelled in that genre. The industry is growing and it may not be our generation but surely soon enuf they will realise wat true Zimba Hip Hop is.

A very good point mate. I ask myself the same question. The problem is in Zim they label almost anyone who does urban music, be it hip hop, R&b or soul. They pack it all under one category. Hip Hop in Zim needs to be recognised, theres fine talent waiting to be recognised.
