firstly u need:
-a pc (d stronger d better...production/editing is very resource demanding)
-a microphone (boom mic-best quality...pc mic/head set...lowest quality)
-head phones
-a beat sequencer/programmer:
hardware:- keyboards, a sampler-sequencer ( e.g MKIIs & MPCs),a mixer, soundbanks...midi controller
software:reason,fruityloops,cakework.
-recording/editing/post production software: sound forge, cubase, nuendo, adobe audition, sony acid pro( a.k.a cool edit pro)
-a quiet (if possible soundproof) area to record.
okay d list is scary...but u actually dont have to have everything to record ur music...i just tried to mention d basic things u should find in a full fledged studio.
recomendations:
-mac pcs r best for production...microsoft software/OS is generally not stable.
-boom mics r d best! if u paying for sessions @ a studio without one u r being seriously short changed! (except its really cheap...lol)
-try head phones that dont "leak" sound into d mic...it affect sound quality & can cause distortions.
-for sequencing hardware,MPCs are d best cos they sequence and sample at d same time.
-a combo of yamaha & korg keyboards would perform better than anyone on its own...i dont know model nos but those really big ones with touch screens are tight!
-for sequencing software:i hear reason's really flexible & cakework's is really easy...aint messed with them b4 but i can say fruityloops studio with d right samples does a nice job & can mimic styles like kanye's sampling quite easily.
-nuendo & cubase are very complex, resource demanding & hard to use but highly professional adobe audition's easier to use...tho less professional,it does d job. soundforge 6 & later is very cool 4 post production & effects but it doesnt record in sessions so it aint too tight 4 recording.
home production proper:
1-pc
2-mic & head phones
3-fruityloops/cakework/reason
4-adobe audition
5-soundforge
6-a quiet area.
basically u need no d works of a pc...d kid of stuff u know from constant use and not computer school..lol...install all d programs...& u ready to make some hits!
u use (3) to make beats, (4) to record...add real time fx, and (5) for post production...amateur mastering.
most of the programs come with "readme" documents and tutorials but i think its best to just mess around till u get d hang so u develop an individual style. i'd try and post links to where u can get d softwares and feel free to holla...ur problems so me or someone else that knows would help.
