aight i think someone asked me about this so let me share what i know...and hopefully some of y'all would chip in with ur views/ thoughts/ ideas so we all can learn a bit.

firstly u need:
-a pc (d stronger d better...production/editing is very resource demanding)
-a microphone (boom mic-best quality...pc mic/head set...lowest quality)
-head phones
-a beat sequencer/programmer:
hardware:- keyboards, a sampler-sequencer ( e.g MKIIs & MPCs),a mixer, soundbanks...midi controller
software:reason,fruityloops,cakework.
-recording/editing/post production software: sound forge, cubase, nuendo, adobe audition, sony acid pro( a.k.a cool edit pro)
-a quiet (if possible soundproof) area to record.

okay d list is scary...but u actually dont have to have everything to record ur music...i just tried to mention d basic things u should find in a full fledged studio.

recomendations:
-mac pcs r best for production...microsoft software/OS is generally not stable.
-boom mics r d best! if u paying for sessions @ a studio without one u r being seriously short changed! (except its really cheap...lol)
-try head phones that dont "leak" sound into d mic...it affect sound quality & can cause distortions.
-for sequencing hardware,MPCs are d best cos they sequence and sample at d same time.
-a combo of yamaha & korg keyboards would perform better than anyone on its own...i dont know model nos but those really big ones with touch screens are tight!
-for sequencing software:i hear reason's really flexible & cakework's is really easy...aint messed with them b4 but i can say fruityloops studio with d right samples does a nice job & can mimic styles like kanye's sampling quite easily.
-nuendo & cubase are very complex, resource demanding & hard to use but highly professional adobe audition's easier to use...tho less professional,it does d job. soundforge 6 & later is very cool 4 post production & effects but it doesnt record in sessions so it aint too tight 4 recording.

home production proper:
1-pc
2-mic & head phones
3-fruityloops/cakework/reason
4-adobe audition
5-soundforge
6-a quiet area.

basically u need no d works of a pc...d kid of stuff u know from constant use and not computer school..lol...install all d programs...& u ready to make some hits!Posted Image
u use (3) to make beats, (4) to record...add real time fx, and (5) for post production...amateur mastering.
most of the programs come with "readme" documents and tutorials but i think its best to just mess around till u get d hang so u develop an individual style. i'd try and post links to where u can get d softwares and feel free to holla...ur problems so me or someone else that knows would help.

yerrrrrr.....no doubt, zero

When it comes to mics, if your mic is gon to be connected to a PC use a USB mic or mic wit USB interface, do not go for them cheap ass mics, save your money n go for at least a $70 - $300 range of high quality cheap mics but always remember a USB mic eliminates all that extra garbage the conventional mic will give you

Definitely get a shock mount and a POP FILTER for your mic. pop filters help eliminate all that "over hype emcee syndrome" lol!

As for softwares, ( for me I have trashed my 24 track programmer, MIDI keyboard....I do ei thing with softwares) production Fruity is most popular, and its good but for peeps with a budget I suggest go for EJay Hip Hop 5, cos u could record, mix, make beats, de-sample n do ei thing........But I still fuck with FruityLoops anyday, still fuck wit my acid pro, cakewalk, I just got burnt copies of cubase (full edition though) from some chicks, so I just started fuckin with that but it is cool, although rigorous shit's involved but its all good.

as for recording if you cant afford them portable booths do what I done did in the past.....U know them soft sleeping foams with lots of contours they got at Walmart, I got bout 3 of them and made a box with it just for experimentation but discovered it helped eliminate all them lil echos u hear when recording in your room

but the best advice is: keep talkin to peeps who be recordin in yo area to get mo info!!!!!

few websites u can check out for mics, software n all that shit
