A lot of cats are doing their shit in the vernac, and to quote a few, Skwatta, Selwyn and ProKid. Well I love ProKid and Selwyn on this part, man they got the voices and the skill, and ProKid has got this ability to make a rhyme out of every word, Pharoahe Monche is more like him(He he he, Proudly South African). They both maneuvre nice rhymes with their voices. Okay back to the vernac, is this shit profitable cause South Africa has got about 11 official languages, and not everyone knows them...okay Zulu and Sotho are mostly spoken but really, it's dfficult to listen to someone rapping in Zulu if you're Sotho, vice-versa! I think this kinda shit limits the ability to sell more copies, unless you got the nice beats and chorus of course!

If u use English pple start to say ur trying to be American/if u use Vernacular majority wont even understand what ur saying/so nobody will even listen to ur stuff/
but better to use English
"cos they will listen even though most will be dissing ur accent''

i mean im Venda so when i speak Venda my accent is different to when i speak English man/n i dont even know it/pple will tell u/
cos vern n english words are so different/

so its better if u mix the two or u do a vern version n english version/eg like Enrique(he did some of his songs in spanish n english/
Doesn't matter if im Dim or Bright//
I'm still a star...

Someone once asked me if Vernac is a new "trend" , so to speak, in SA hiphop and if it has more listeners... I reckon it is a trend now, which isnt good in my opinion ..

I'm not hating on those who spit in Vernac - i mean there are some mc's who pull it off and it sounds tite (eg: MY MAN, Selwyn, HHP) but there are alot of those who abuse it and totally flop. Eg: Skwatta... every second word is "tswape" or "betshana"(sp)

My theory - you may disagree, but *shrugz*: for alotta people, spitting in vernac is an escape route coz they cant master wordplay... maybe they once could but just sorta "lost their mojo" along the way.

once agen, no hate on those who do it well
