and about the pronounciation issue, listen to my songs well and tell me which words rhymed wrong because of wrong pronounciation on my Records??? i listened to you, but u sound a bit inaudible...i put your sauce kid diss on Nairaland,and a lot of people said the same thing......lets be truthful to ourselves...i didnt learn anything in my oral english class....all i know is that i rap the way i talk, and so does Ill bliss , Modenine , Osagz , Teckzilla , and the rest of the emcees i listen to and respect.....lets be constructive critics..im waiting on your criticsms on any of my joints because thats what i want..and if u wanna hear more from me , check this forum in two days time and you will see my mixtape...download and listen , and criticize some more.....ive listened to most of your songs..lemme have your new stuff lemme listen because if you dont know i am a Hip-Hop critic as well.......i just dont let my criticsms get in the way of my Art........so im waiting on your criticsms and new work,while you wait fo mine.

I heard your tracks finally, not bad, lyrics is ok, but that DICTION is complete nonsense, make i tell you. talking how u rap? what the hell are u talking about? the language your rapping with is not your own!, if you want to be real in that sense then rap in yoruba or Igbo, whichever one wey u be? and your tracks rhyme perfectly, but thats because u pronounced the last word on the last bar the same way as the present bar. u will always have an accent, but your diction can always be better.

i have to point out that the "air u out" i posted here was on low fi so it kinda sounded distorted. just to let you know, i recorded the song around 2008 and alotta people have heard it including mode 9 and i took their criticism so what's up with nairaland? doesn't sound like a hiphop site though. Don't know why u got so pissed about me posting immortal techniques interview, and it's not about what he said, but about his course. In my idle time, i've been able to study alotta things people like him and canibus are always pointing out in their lyrics and i have to tell u it's mind bugling. I've known alotta listening and studying these artists and i wish i can be a better fan of immortal technique like u. Did u hear about a Nigerian senator that got married to a 13 year old Egyptian girl and divorced his 17 old nursing wife? this is something people like immortal technique won't let slip like that. i don't know how long u've been in London and how long you've been outta Nigeria but i tell u, Coming here to see the standard of living and how things are here got me regretting why i did rap without educating the people about the wrongs in my society. i've seen peoples head get chopped off cos they were accused of stealing or pilfering. i lived in Aba in abia state, if u know this place, then u know what am talking about.

backtrack a little bit, using accent in rap to me has nothing to do with being real, you should be worried about people who talk about projects and call the name of all typah guns and even mention states in america in their rap. people who talk about Macdonald and subways,train and bus stations, that's unreal cos the last time i checked, they weren't in nigeria. u can use any language u like, speak English anyway u think best but ma point is the content. i like rap with polished English anyways, it helps the rap to have a little bit of rhythm to it. i like planet asia, i like masta ace for their audibility. i gotta sya dude, ya delivery sounds predictable plus u don't utilize alotta elements of Rap that helps delivery in your music. eg, multis, in rhyming two why rhyming 4 way rhyming, etc. i have to add stress on the right words.

i implore u to see this as just a way of sharing opinion cos ever since i learnt it's an asshole, i stopped taking it personal cos everybody has one just like me. xblaze is a good person trust me, i've spoken with him, we spoke in igbo and he's good and proud of where he came from. he's an educated young man, well educated believe me, u shouldn't write em off. He's worth being a friend with and he'll love to listen and even buy ya mixtape. now you are talking like a man apop and dat is why i entered this talk with you...i really dont give a hoot about X blaze , because me and him hve always clashed but if hes wise he will join the train...listen Canibus used to be my favourite rapper,but after a while he got boring...a lotta people know this.....hes respected as underground,and hes an ex marine, so probably his retirement benefits are okay for him...but as per Hip-Hop hes not getting paid EVER .,....sad to say this but he attacked Cool J which remains a flaw till tomorrow......and he wont sell records.......lemme tell u i used to rap like that before ...complicated,astral , scientific and chemical , but i WANNA SELL RECORDS WITHOUT SELLING OUT..so my first step was to make my rhyme pattern SIMPLE AND PLAIN....i can do a song all with hard jaw bending metaphors, but i prefer to keep mine simple like Guru who is the only emcee follow his pattern and try to rap like ...and hence my simple and predictable rhyme pattern,.........i dont owe anybody any explanations , but im just being straight.

american sounding nigerian emcees in my context are the MIs,the sashas ,the Sauce kids , the Jesse Jagz, the evas, and the likes that sound so lil waynish and kanyewestish and drakish...other than tht im kool with everyone..didnt u see my post on my favourite naija rappers???,....

as for the ones rapping about bentleys , murceilagos,Brooklyn,penthouse suite,and private jet i have absolutely no regards for them not even the slightest.

yeah i know and i respect other african countries over naija rap,because of this very accent issue...all those countries you mentioned,rappers like Pro Kid,Zubz,Optical illusion,Navio,HHP, all use thier african acents and pronounce words in thier accent and thats why i love dem so much

i wont lie...what attracts me to nigerian emcees at first listen is not even your lyrics but your sound..if you sound Nigerian , and i can i dentify that you are Nigeian immediately,i jump on the track..before i start listening to Lyrics..in a Nutshell Yankee sounding rappers hardly appeal to me

Hello guys i've been reading this thread for abit and i've read the different opinions and standpoints which have been interesting. Now i'm not as well versed on various nigerean hip hop acts as my esteemed comrades who've shared their opinions but i was hoping to give a fresh opinion from someone outside looking in. first n foremost i have to commend nigerian hip hop for its diversity and current stature as one the best scenes in africa and this is showcased in the global world awards.second i would like to attempt to try and answer Apop's question,i won't lie the question is too deep to jus have a simple explanation or answer. for me commercial music is an essential element to the hip hop culture,becoz if there wasn't a commercial side to the culture i don't think there would be as a competitive spirit in the culture,and that competition can only push the envelope.Now i'm not saying all product from the commercial side of hip hop is good,definately not!!But like they say your palate of hip hop music is like a balanced diet u have to have a variety. recently i was reading a book abt global linguistics and hip hop culture n theres an interesting essay by Tope Omoniyi called "so i choose to do am naija style",which loosely touches on this topic. and frankly i have to ask wat is "keeping it real" i know i number of u are mentioning immortal technique and foreign artists and i empathise with meyer coz i know wat his on coz altho we are part of a global community i.e hip hop community we have to be careful not to be colonised by global over local(because if we're truly keeping it real shuldn't we support local first before overseas) in this case the global turns out to be american artists,which i think is unfair coz they shuld really be a branch in a large tree n global shuld really mean global.
but besides that abt wats real u guys talk abt diction and how u pronounce words n stuff,i have a question,would pronouncing a word correctly mean ur keeping it realer? surely if ur true to who u are that wuld constitute being real. the core value of hip hop culture is being REAL being honest with who u are being genuine with ya passion be it commercially or non-commercially,regardless wat i believe pple who are genuine always get their time in the limelight because if ur genuine its not hard ya doing yourself and your longevity is assured. i know i probably haven't gone as deep as i wanted in trying to answer ya question,but wat i will say is although i try to keep it real i don't try to go to far and lose touch with the different sub-genres in the culture because its like going to the gym u have to work out all body parts although some body parts do get more time than others u still have to pay them attention too.

The most popular musicians around the world are criticized everyday, The Beatles, Micheal Jackson, PHil Collins, billy holiday, and the rest for the same art that other people consider them among the greatest, the fact that i said change your diction doesnt mean you should do so, this is how i felt from listening to your music. I came from struggle so i know what struggle is ok, I could've had that Paradigm shift album sent to me from someone (apop u know who..), but i paid for it on CD baby just so i can do my part supporting modenine. At least thats the least i could do, when i was in enugu, when one of my pals was getting his album produced by DEkumzy, i paid for it when everybody wanted a free copy because he was a friend, I'll pay for apops mixtape, i could get it for free, but it only makes sense that i support a brother, no matter how little, you, good luck with your album, your downfall will in no way advance my hustle, so if u think that everybody is on that ignorant hate shit you need to go to school.

Changing your diction because you want to sound like an american in no way makes u real, thats actually selling out, because you wont succeed and u'll come off as phony from the start. i suggested that to meyer cos personally i didnt feel the way he's words came off, they were a lil improperly pronounced which is basically understandable, afterall he's not an american, but he can definitely improve the way the words sounded, that was what i meant, maybe diction wasnt the proper term. More like enunciation.i probably sound like him when i talk, but then i'm not rapping. AGAIN, just my opinion.
