how about employing enterpreneural approach in distributing underground mixtapes, albums and compilations to majors cities in nigeria? who said nigerians don't listen to good rap music? how can one come up with such conclusions without a tested proof? str8 butta has an album right now but it's no where to be found even in lagos.when i came back to aba with the album, a lot of people wanted to rip it but i never let them but promired to get more copier when i hit lagos again. i just drop my mixtape/compilation album last month and have sold close to 300 copies with no buzz yet. the ones i put up on local cd stores have been sold, all i did was to give the store owners word-of-mouth tips and the usps in the merchandise. i got str3t teams and friend who are helping to get the word out on the tr3t and i feel more can be done with our collective effort. i am thinking about a situation whereby cds will be dirtributed to the networks in different locations but first of all each network will build ties with local cd store owners, clubs, recording studios, etc, in their areas. publicity materials like posters and flyers will also be included to be displayed in the areas where the cds will be sold....t b c (it is slow typing m the phone)

@ Apop : Thats whats up : In my Hometown , I spent 12 days and I sold 200 copies of my KRONIKLES RELOADED R&B CD in House Parties alone. And the funny thing is that I went for another party and the DJ was playing my song. One of the dudes that bought the CD in a previous party even gave it to a DJ to play.

When we think like Business Men, Then we will be able to sell our Product.

Posters and various items in the stores are great ideas, there is definitely a market for the distributor. The key is building a fan base that is loyal to buy not steal by ripping and downloading (we all have done at one time or another).

In my opinion to the artist/management in the business should budget CDs/albums and music more for marketing and promoting not for profits to feed your pockets. The spread of music will help lead you to the next level of getting sold out shows, sponsors and cameo deals. That's where to money is at.

Suggestion as far as networking, not the same as apops post of engaging with the stores: maybe some of you (similar sound) should get together and insert ads (w/ contact phone numbers and web links) of the associated artist in your albums covers. Then y'all are spreading the word of artist in different cities. Each album sold is a new prospect to your own music. That way people in other cities will be informed who is "hot" in the next city. People are always looking for new music and new artist. this will help spread the word... it can even bring you to their city for shows if there is enough demand. This way people will search to you to buy your own product. OF COURSE do your research and be selective when picking the associate in making sure they benefit your business.

I believe hiphop/ rap music can carve a niche in the music market. it's not enough to be a good rapper/emcee in Nigeria cos the so called marketers don't believe in this genre of music. The business of selling music and promoting it has to be employed . I believe the more the street team, the more the sells, and the more the show, the more the sells too. It' s important to know what your USP is and your edge over you competitors. The USP can be more effective on the packaging, you can type and photocopy lyrics of at list five tracks from the work and put it inside your jacket, that can be a good USP. every 100 copies sold, a t shirt can be given out. it's good to define ones market and audience and identify their meeting points. students like hiphop music but they won't buy when the semester is rounding off. after a performance on stage, don't step down without endorsing your work. If you have limited copies, don't sell to a truck pusher, yes he can afford to buy it but he won't play it. Referral is golden. you won't know how far your work will go if you don't take it outta the shelf and flip it.

let's get ish started, i am willing to be a part and ma street team is down
