Sup people, yeah its time to rep', we got to keep it (Hiphop culture) active everywhere, everytime and and especially here, I think that this site has played a big role in promotin' Hiphop as a culture in many African countries especially in the northwest and also the south. We should not be missing this opportunity,we got to represent @ home first (and this is home) before we can step outside (by representin' I mean spreading the knowledge through the best way we do i.e rap(counscious rhymes),poetry and any other possible way within the boundaries of Hiphop culture). This has worked for many other countries, so now with the Kenyan Hiphop forum giving the opportunity, its our highest time to let Africa and the whole world know that Hiphop lives here too.
Lets talk Kenyan Hiphop, lets discuss it, lets spread wisdom by droppin' councious rhymes and poems, lets catch the vision n' the mind of everyone, yeah lets keep this forum active.

Peace

true man this the tym we should show everyone what we mean when we say we are hiphop.let the whole world know hiphop as aculture is so much alive in kenya with or without airplay.am hiphop i mean hiphop is me as buddha always puts it thats why huwa inanitouch sana kuona viji rapper na mistari ya kitoto kujidai wao ni hiphop na mtu hawezi hata kuelezea hiphop ni nini. apart from kuingia studio na kurecord hakuna kitu nyingine anajua.inabidi pia nimnukuu judge wa black duo-' ka we ni mc jiulize umefunza nini jamii'?

True talk man, one obstacle facin' Hiphop as a culture in this country is that the society aint ready to accept it due to the ugly picture the media potrays as Hiphop. The problem is that many is that many or all of these people who write or discuss Hiphop through the media have little knowledge of what they are talking about because themselves aint Hiphop, you see, you got to be Hiphop so as to understand it as a culture. Its time Hiphop finds its way into media in a positive way so that the society can understand it in a positive way.
Its true and clear that Hiphop as a culture has been corrupted in the west thats why they say "Hiphop Is Dead",but they got their own reasons for this, and those who truely lives Hiphop know that Hiphop aint dead coz it lives within' them.Hiphop aint bling n' steel on ya' waist,it aint crack or smokin' blunts either or naked women shakin' their booties n' tities in a music video, Hiphop is counscious state of mind, awareness and a responsible way of life among others morals.
Rap music being one of the elements of Hiphop, we got to use it to express our views on whats happening in our country socially, politically and also economically,we should use it as a tool for bringing awareness in the society by gettin' hold of the mic' both in the studio, on stage and inside the radio station and spit some knowledge for those who have ears to hear, let the critics not weaken you but strengthen you.

Peace.

I remember back in the late 90's, on Nation FM (now Easy FM) they used to have an Hiphop show every weekend on Friday which was hosted by Kalamashaka, yeah by Kalamashaka and they called it Wakilisha Show (Rough Rugged n' Raw), according to my opinion, this is so far the best Hiphop Show on radio in Kenya's history, I am sure other Hiphop heads who used to listen to it can bear witness to the same. They used to have Hiphop related discussions live in studio where listens would call to give their views, there was also a duration for freetyling where MCs would call in and freesytle or they would invite MCs in the studio to freestyle or even battle lyrically, some songs they used to play I have never heard them again on radio. This were the times when the media used to recognize Hiphop as a culture by giving it a chance to be heard by the society.
So I am still left to wonder, what happened?! , is it that we dont have anyone willing to face the FM stations for another chance, or are the uncondusive protocols and conditions the FM stations demands for a few hours in their studios?!.
What happened??!!

Na hao sio ma MCs, ni ma 'wanna be rappers' ambao wanatafuta tu fame huku wakijidai eti wao ni Hiphop MCs only because they can rap, yeah but wat' do they rap about? only sex, alchohol, women, clubbin' and expensive cars n' bikes they dont even own??!!,in short, they jus' out to entertain, while MCs edutain (i.e MCs educate as they entertain).Wacha niseme hivi, hawa ma-rappers wanaojidai ma MCs ndio wanaharibia Hiphop sifa kwa jamii, its time we leave em' out like residue on a sieve.

true talk boyz. who said abbass is ill, or bamboo or ukoo or whoever the hell. they just aint heard of iller cats coz radio wont let these newer better cats voices get heard.
even hiphop forums like WAPI still adore these older cats. they should phase out like Mwafrika. his exit was noble.

We need an 100% Hiphop radio, the rest can be heard in the other stations which dont seem to recognize n' respect Hiphop.

Dem days when hip-hop was hip-hop in the country when metro fm was a non monolithic station, the days Daniel O was the man who played the jams Before Mwafrika graduated from school, before Abass went commercial to do biz, before kantai knew what was up in hip hop, when k shaka did really eat up problems and hardstone was the jam of the joints and Zakah did dandora love. And the greatest loss before Necessary noise backslid. We have had a strong background on hip hop and it is fading away and the sick ass music is taking over the airplay, and people have been made recite the nursery school lines, it’s only us who can work out this and restore some hip hop in this nation. I ain’t dissing anyone but the game has been compromised and real music fades away, lets embrace the culture we have the need for it to survive have it in our hearts and never look back when it falling be there to help it grow. Am here to see it thru’ make it strong and support it!!!!!!!

Mangirima, KK anthem, DC na sisi, music was dope back then. We have to keep this alive and by doing that we have to acknowledge it and proclaim it, then own it, I can remember “tafsiri hii maisha kule mjini ni mazii, tunalia tukitumia MIC, tafsiri hii ingawa tuko chini bado tuna tumaini sikiza kwa makini” all this good seems to be off but we have to keep it alive.i here these joints and am like where did all the good music go? Why does radio stations hate on real music? We need a break if not a time out. And give way to real hip hop. HBR is turning up to be a disappointment in the radio world, when I heard of it I saw hope but still the same crap I hear on radio, I respect juacali cause he knows he ain’t hip hop and he says it, GHETTO came over but still nothing promising, kwa hakika Dobeez made sense when he was bamboo and before crunk showed up. Its simple an excuse for making real music. I don’t listen to crunk and if you’re are please give yourself a break. Kantai seems to have lost it when he shaved his hair, kwa hakika akili ni nywele. RIP Krupt, when Nairobi west was the place he was sure the realest. When Ogopa was really a scare to the industry taming every lyricist to a lullaby singer, krupt never tamed of he kept it real even on the mellow tunes, Esir RIP he was good in his game and when he departed that was it with rap. Chiwawa is falling off and compromising for the thing he struggled for and when he dissed klepto I mean it was shown love, and got respect. But seems like a nigga can’t rhyme if he ain’t dissing, nways its upon us to keep it alive and get moving

i do miss the days back then, i cant listen to radio anymore, there is nothing to listen to, its not that i hate Reggae, but why a station to embrace the genre and Hip hop is side lined? i think we have lost a good thing and its like it will never show up again:

I feel u' man, Kenyan radio aint doin' shit to embrace Hiphop, they instead tryna kill it wit' some fake ass crunk stuff n' lots of yappin' in tha' name of rappin' then give Hiphop a bad name by tryna call that shit Hiphop?!!...but then again' we who understand wat we mean by Hiphop, its up to us to get ish back on track n' ignore all tha' noise that media tries to make wen they feal or see real Hiphop.
If only I could get a breakthru into tha' Kenyan airwaves...I got mad ish, enough ish to make all'ya bump ya Hiphop thirst blood to for as long as u' can imagine!!
